Pavers often look identical on the surface, but their physical properties—like porosity, density, and strength—vary significantly from one driveway to another.

Paver Sealing brightens up a home and allows your driveway to make a statement.

At BSP we say " You don't have to seal your pavers, but if you don't You wont get all the benefits.

Before Sealing/ After Pressure washing

Core Reasons for Pressure Washing-

*Removes Debri and Grime-Strips away surface dirt, stubborn oil spots, and organic matter like moss and algae.

*Opens Surface Pores-Deeply flushes the pores of the concrete or brick so the liquid sealer can properly soak in and grip the material.

--KEEP IN MIND--

Some ares may need to be chemically treated to remove algae/ mold growth.

Some need spot treatments with rust remover.

Some need effloresecnce cleaner to try and improve the "White Haze".

No Pavers are the same nor do they respond the same.

During the process

Why the Prep work matters-

*Importance of prep is to stop the

Sealer from getting on the walls, glass, front doors, garage doors and yes even the plants.

Wandering spray can be prevented by papering, taping, and shielding areas before sealing even begins.

Prep work needs to be completed around all the pavers that are to be sealed.

Pool cages need to be papered and taped off to protect  just as much as the patio sliders, and large unmovable pots.

Everything is important  and should be considered regarding the prep work.

This step is to safeguard your home during the process.

Freshly Sealed Pavers

Why Sealing is Important-

*Stops Color from fading- the intense sun can bleach and dull the paver colors.

*Fewer weeds and bugs-

Hardened sand joints stop windblown seeds from sprouting and keeps ants from building nests between the pavers.

*Easier maintenance-Spills and dirt stay on top of the protective seal, meaning you can wash them away easily without harsh scrubbing.

*Longer lifespan- Protecting the material from moisture cycles and harsh buildup keeps your patio or driveway looking new for a few years

                                            Key Reasons Pavers Differ

Material Composition & Density:

Dense/Cast Concrete: Standard driveway pavers are made from aggregate, sand, cement, and minimal water, compressed under heavy vibration. The tighter the compression, the less porous and more water-resistant the paver is.

Clay Brick vs. Natural Stone: Clay pavers fired at high heat become vitrified and non-porous. Natural stone (like limestone vs. granite) varies wildly in natural

Sealant & Age

A paver driveway that has been recently sealed with a protective coating will repel water, oil, and stains.

Unsealed or older pavers gradually absorb moisture, making them noticeably darker when wet and more porous as UV exposure and weather wear down the surface paste.

Manufacturing & Batch Variations

Pavers produced by different manufacturers (or even different production runs) use slightly different mix ratios. Minor changes in fine aggregates or curing times affect how much liquid the paver will absorb.

Environmental Exposure & Wear

High traffic, harsh chemicals, and the weather elements can strip away the smooth top layer of cement paste, opening up the micro-pores underneath and making the pavers progressively more porous over time.
